Wellie Wednesday is a fab afternoon in Year 1.
Here in the photo some of the children were making pulleys, some were making superhero traps, some were making a fence and some were helping an adult measure, cut and seal ropes for knot tying.
So far this year, we have been learning to:
tie knots,
make natural photo frames,
climb trees,
make natural slides,
name trees,
play ‘That’s not my stick’ and ‘The floor is lava’,
use our mud kitchen resources to make delicious foods and potions,
toast marshmallows on the fire for Bonfire Night,
and much much more.
Wellie Wednesday helps build self esteem, independence and self belief. It improves our social skills, teamwork skills and helps up to continue to build relationships. A huge benefit is we get to apply our language and communication skills and it is a great way to cover the Year 1 curriculum (it links the theory and ‘the real world’). We also learn new skills we would never learn in the classroom.
